"We y^e subscribers, inhabitants of y^e town of Duxborough, being sensible of the Troubles and Contentions in y^e s^d town by reason of a party that are not willing to pay our minister, viz., y^e Rev^nd M^r. John Robinson, so much in value as our engagement was to him as to his yearly salary, when he first settled among us, nor to comply with y^e judgement of Court relating thereto, nor any other ways to agree with him about y^e same; but still are going on in their Contentions, which have occasioned great charge upon y^e s^d town, & is likely to occasion more, if speedy care be not taken to prevent, We therefore whose names are hereunto written do hereby declare our aversness to y^e maintaining y^e s^d Contentions & do protest against paying any further charge which may be brought on y^e s^d town by such contentions, & do declare our willingness to comply with y^e judgement of Court relating to y^e above s^d salary, & to pay our parts of what yet remains due concerning y^e same, that so our s^d Minister may be well supported & encouraged to continue in the work of y^e Ministry among us."
